PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Senior Inventory/Cost Accountant has primary responsibility for transaction-related activities of the accounting department. These responsibilities include the accuracy and maintenance of the transaction sub-ledgers, the general ledger, financial statements, and the accounting system. With a strong knowledge of inventory accounting, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing and maintaining the accuracy and completeness of the company's inventory records, verifying costs are captured appropriately for the items that we manufacture, overseeing the month-end close process related to operating expenses, and ensuring compliance with state and local sales and use tax requirements.
CORE FUNCTIONS
Inventory cost accounting (40%)
- Ownership of inventory accounting process, including the accurate recording of inventory transactions and valuation in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
- Understand average cost calculation Epicor methodology and trace/verify the average cost
- Analyze monthly results and research job cost variances, manufacturing variances, and purchase price variances
- Develop and implement inventory control procedures to ensure the accuracy and integrity of inventory data.
- Collaborate with internal and external auditors during audits and reviews Work closely with procurement, production, and logistics teams to ensure accurate and timely inventory data.
- Provide guidance and support to other departments on inventory-related matters.
- Participate in cross-functional projects to improve inventory management and reporting processes.
General accounting (40%)
- Accurate and timely processing of expense-related financial transactions including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliation to facilitate month-end close.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and resolve discrepancies as they arise.
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of fixed asset additions, disposals, transfers, and adjustments.
- Calculate and record depreciation and amortization for all fixed assets, ensuring proper alignment with accounting standards
- Provide detailed analysis and commentary variances of monthly expenses vs budget/forecast
- Research accounting issues for compliance with GAAP
- Assist with annual financial audit, producing schedules and process narratives as requested
- Ad-hoc analysis as assigned
Tax Compliance (20%)
- Ensure sales and use tax returns are completed and filed correctly on a timely basis
- Address incoming tax notices and consult with an outside tax preparer
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree, Accounting major required.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive inventory, and GL experience with a strong understanding of sales and use tax.
- Advanced knowledge of US GAAP, inventory valuation methods, and cost accounting principles.
- Experience in the application of complex accounting principles, ability to research and reach well-reasoned conclusions on technical accounting issues.
- Exceptional computer skills (Microsoft Office). Proficiency in ERP systems (preferably EPICOR) and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent oral, written, listening, and presentation skills and ability to clearly articulate complex information to others.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence key stakeholders.
- Ability to think strategically and drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Proven ability to perform under deadlines, to adjust plans to meet changing needs and requirements.

Working conditions as found in a typical office location.
Hybrid work schedule – Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays are in the office
